The Next New Thing

How about video chat on social networking sites such as Facebook, Myspace, and etc.? I know that there are various software out there such as skype, yahoo messenger, and etc. that offer video chat for private use and groupware technology such as Microsoft Office Communications Server that offer live group conferences for corporate use. However, with the increase popularity of social networking sites and the amount of time spent on these websites, I believe the feature of having video chat will vastly improve its population and will take new media to the next level. Not only can users view photos of their friends and family, they would also be able to see them live!

Our Class Wiki - So Far

At the moment, the only content that I have contributed to the class wiki is my own bio. I plan on contributing to the New Media and Major League Baseball section by adding more content to it. I will discuss the new media behind a new TV network known as MLB Network which began airing last year. It is a TV network that is solely contributed to major league baseball. Since it is a new network, its way of bringing updated news to its viewers are technologically up-to-date such as blogging, twittering, facebook, and etc.

About My Term Research Paper

Well, for my term research paper, I basically conducted research on online social networking, why it is important, what it is exactly, how it came about, and the various perspectives on the phenomenon. My research came from online scholarly documents and articles. Through my research, I found it extremely tiring and boring reading through all the scholarly documents. However, at the same time, there are key points that were quite interesting and informing. I have learned more on the topic of social networking than I have by just using sites such as Facebook.com. I chose this topic because online social networking is an expanding field with a lot of potential. There has to be a reason behind the success as well as a foundation for it. To understand how and why it is successful, research must first be conducted. In conclusion, online social networking isn't disappearing anytime soon. Expect new applications, evolution, and features from these sites because more and more of these sites will start up and competition will only increase. To stay on top, these sites will have to please us users. In addition, these sites are becoming more and more mobile with the boom of smart phones. My research paper provides some insight onto one form of new media, online social networking.
